Why We Built WalkList Without a Cloud Subscription

The subscription model wasn't built for operators

If you run hotel operations, you already know what your software stack costs per month. Property management system. Communication tools. Scheduling software. Maintenance ticketing. Guest feedback platforms. The line items add up fast, and most of them charge per user, per month, with annual contracts and price increases built in.

We looked at that landscape and asked a simple question: does a floor inspection tool need to be part of it?

    The answer was no.

What we were actually trying to solve

WalkList was created by a husband-and-wife team who work in hospitality. They understand what the operations team needs on the floor and what the admin side needs behind the desk, so WalkList is built for both.

The frustration wasn't about features. It was about friction. The tools available were either too expensive, too complex, or too invasive. They wanted an account. They wanted cloud access. They wanted a monthly fee for capabilities that should have been simple.

We wanted something a hotel manager could download, open, and use on a floor walk within five minutes. No account creation. No IT approval required. No personal photos mixed in with operational ones.

Why local storage was the right call

Every photo taken inside WalkList stays on your device until you choose to export it. There is no cloud backend. No server storing your inspection reports. No account that could be breached or a subscription that could lapse and lock you out of your own data.

For hotel operators, this matters. Your daily inspection reports contain documentation of deficiencies, brand standard failures, and maintenance issues. That data is operational intelligence. It belongs to you, not to a software company's servers.

Local storage also means the app works offline. No Wi-Fi required in the basement, the service corridor, or the back-of-house areas where inspections actually happen.

The one-time price is a values decision

We charge CA$19.99 / US$14.99 once. You own it forever.

That decision is deliberate. The operators we built this for are already paying too much for too many tools. A simple, focused inspection app should not add another line item to that list.

It also means our incentives are aligned with yours. We don't benefit from locking you into a recurring payment. We benefit from building something good enough that you recommend it to the next Director of Rooms you meet.

    What we're building toward

WalkList is a focused tool. It does one thing well: it helps hotel operators document what they find on a floor walk and turn it into a professional, shareable report.

We're not trying to be an enterprise platform. We're not adding features for the sake of a roadmap. We're listening to the operators who use it every day and building the things they actually ask for.

If you've used WalkList and have feedback, we genuinely want to hear it. The best version of this product gets built with operators, not for them.
